DECONSTRUCTING THE OTHER

From 17-24 September, 20 youth from 19 countries came together to work together to encourage social inclusion of young people by helping them reflect on their current activities and programs, and developing alternative ways to being more inclusive.

The training course DECONSTRUCTING THE OTHER aimed to equip youth workers with the capacities and tools to deal with the complex phenomenon of social exclusion by observing closely its causes from an inter-and intra-personal level. It concentrated on the need to “deconstructing the image of the others” as enemies and learn how young people can challenge this, especially through youth work, volunteering and other forms of social support.

The training, which was held in Moli de Mar, Vilanova I la Geltru, combined non-formal learning and personal development techniques that guided participants through the main concepts and theories. Participants learned through innovative working methods for the social inclusion of young people.

The main achievements of the training include; learning about the framework of peace and the culture of peace; learning about identities of individuals and its relation to structural, cultural and social context; learning about the role of stereotypes in “breeding” prejudice and discrimination; tips and methods in “deconstructing” the image of the other.

The project is supported by the Youth in Action Programme of the European Commission, and the Spanish National Agency, with the cooperation of our partners : Association AGIR pour le Developpement et I´Epanouissement de la Jeunesse (Algeria), Center of European Cooperation (Ukraine), Constructive Approach Foundation (Russia),EGO Young Psychologists NGO (Armenia), Youth Cultural Centre Bitola (FYR of Macedonia), Kosovar Association for Human and Children Rights (Republic of Kosovo), Zdravo de steda (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Toplum Gonüllüleri Vakfi-Community Volunteers Foundation and Active Youth Association (Turkey),Rotaract Club Szeged, (Hungary) The Black Sea University (Romania) and United Nations Youth Association ( Bulgaria), Centro Internazionale per la Promozione dell’Educazione e lo sviluppo- CEIPES and Eurodesk Viterbo (Italy), NGO
